My Story
Janel Owens is a higher education professional with a passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Her mission is to positively impact the lives of others, giving students the opportunity to gain leadership skills that complement formal education by inspiring and motivating them from their personal learning experiences. Her campus involvement as a first-generation college student sparked her passion for higher education and equity in student success. From her experiences, she strives to inspire all students and higher education professionals to explore who they are inside and out mentally, physically, and emotionally to reach their goals and be contributing members of a diverse society.
Janel is a wife and a proud mother of her 9-year-old son. She is a native of Brooklyn, NY with Caribbean roots. She has a Master of Science in Instructional Technology from New York Institute of Technology, a Master of Arts in Corporate and Organizational Communications and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She is currently enrolled at St. Thomas University, where she is pursuing her Ed.D in Leadership and Innovation .
